Our Story, Building on a Legacy of Design Excellence

From our roots in 1953 as Omness Design, Inc. to our evolution as Rhythm Architecture, we continue to shape communities across Ohio through thoughtful, enduring design.

Who We Are

Founded in Columbus, Ohio, Rhythm Architecture is a multidisciplinary firm focused on creating architecture that resonates with its surroundings and purpose. We believe every project should elevate the community it serves — merging creativity, precision, and context to deliver lasting impact.

Our team’s diverse experience in residential, commercial, and community design reflects over 125 years of combined expertise, built on decades of innovation, collaboration, and craftsmanship.

A Legacy of Architecture in Ohio

Our story began in 1953 with Omness Design, Inc., a firm whose designs helped define the architectural landscape of Marion and Ohio. Over the decades — through partnerships like Edwards & Burris Architects and later Burris, Lockwood & Tangeman Architects — the firm evolved with new leadership and new ideas.

In 2016, Paul Omness carried forward that legacy, establishing Omness Design, Inc. as a leader in client-focused architecture. Today, through the partnership with Rhythm Architecture, that same dedication continues — merging heritage and innovation to serve communities across Columbus and beyond.

Our Design Approach

We approach every project as a collaboration — listening first, questioning assumptions, and developing design solutions that reflect our clients’ goals and the rhythm of the surrounding context. Whether a modern residence, community building, or commercial development, our process blends thoughtful research with creative problem-solving to exceed expectations.
